The RTSS’21 organizers are constantly monitoring the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic, including: the rate of vaccination and the diffusion of the virus, the Taiwanese policies regulating the entrance of visitors, and travel restrictions.
Based on IEEE-TCRTS decision on this matter, the current plan is to have a hybrid conference format. This means that RTSS’21 will provide support for both physical and virtual participation. RTSS’21 will then allow both attendees and speakers to be physically present in Taipei or virtually present and connected to the conference platform (details will be released at a later date).
Depending on the attendance of the presenter, we envisage the following forms of interaction:
- [physical presenter] Standard Q&A interaction with the physical audience moderated by the physical session chair. The presentation is streamed and made accessible to registered virtual participants. The virtual session chair moderates the interaction with virtual participants.
- [virtual presenter] The speaker records the presentation in advance. The recording is played during the conference. During the allocated presentation time, one of the authors must be available (either physically or virtually) to answer questions coming from the attendees (either physical or virtual).
The conference sessions will be scheduled in accordance with the local Taiwanese time zone with an effort to schedule the presentations of virtual speakers at convenient times.
Also, to encourage better interaction, we will offer interaction channels (Slack, Mattermost, or similar) between speakers and the audience, available for a few days from the conference dates.
Finally, upon IEEE-TCRTS recommendation, RTSS’21 will implement a Free-of-Charge policy for (non-author) virtual participants
